Ace Young proposes to Diana DeGarmo during American Idol finale

Ace Young decided to make an honest woman out of Diana DeGarmo, potentially stirring more headlines for American Idol than season 11 winner Phillip Phillips.

The pair isn't strangers to Idol, as DeGarmo was the runner-up in season three and Young was a contestant on season five. Young got down on one knee during the finale to present DeGarmo with an engagement ring, according to Us Weekly.

"I love you to death. You're my best friend," Young said during the speech. "I want to make this last forever and I will do anything in my power to have the most ... amazing life together if you will have me. Diana Nicole DeGarmo, will you marry me?"

Young told People Magazine that he discussed his proposal plans with the show's producer Nigel Lythgoe and host Ryan Seacrest. He also made sure to listen to DeGarmo's every word, noting that she had made a comment about wanting gold jewelry to come back.
