Elizabeth Smart announces engagement

Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped from her home in 2002 at the age of 14, recently announced that her boyfriend has got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage, according to People Magazine.

"We're very excited for her," her father Ed Smart told the news source on Friday. "She told us at home last Saturday. I wasn't really surprised. They've been very happy together. We're just thrilled. We're looking forward to her moving on to this next stage and leading a very happy life."

Ed has been very mum on the details, including the groom's name. Those who are interested in the type of wedding dress she will wear or what her engagement ring looks like may be out of luck, as the bride wants to keep everything private.

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Elizabeth has been very vocal about her experience during her nine-month kidnapping by Brian David Mitchell. She has been trying to implement a program in elementary schools to raise awareness about child sex abuse.

However, she wants to keep her personal life private from now on - including her wedding plans.
