Hollywood stars channeled their inner punk at the Met Gala 2013
Apparently, punk is posh, according to the theme of the Met Gala 2013. All of the most glamorous, daring and beautiful fashion stars of the red carpet came out to show their own interpretation of the edgy trend, and you better believe there were plenty of chains, spikes and over-the-top accessories.
Fashion risks
Some stars stood out because of their jewelry choices, such as Madonna, clad in layers of chains and choker necklaces, or Blake Lively, with out-of-this-world Lorraine Schwartz dangly earrings. A few, however, took risks with other parts of their look - Anne Hathaway sported a brand new platinum 'do for the occasion.
"I don't know if you can tell by looking at me but Debbie Harry was kind of an inspiration," Hathaway told model Hilary Rhoda on the red carpet, according to People Style Watch.
The actress paired her bold hairstyle with an equally daring Valentino gown, which came from the designer's 1992 collection - the peak of the punk days.
Fierce jewels
Some stars put all of their punk power in their jewelry, like Jessica Alba. Her gorgeous dress was certainly edgy, but her earrings looked like they could also function as weapons if necessary. Her dramatic cuff earrings snaked from the top of her ear down to her lobe, making them one of the most eye-catching jewelry pieces of the evening. Cuff earrings are daring, and not exactly appropriate for the workplace, but if you're ready for a night out in the city, consider trying a pair, like the Diamond-Cut Ear Pins And Snake Ear Cuff Set In 18k Gold Over Sterling Silver.
Another starlet who wasn't afraid to make a statement with her jewels was model Rosie Huntington-Whitely, who opted for a Fall 2013 Gucci gown and dazzling drop earrings to offset her dark, demure ensemble, as well as a gold statement ring to add just a bit more flash to the look. The fashion maven was also one of the many starlets to flaunt her trendy manicure to the cameras - January Jones and Nicole Richie showed off their glammed up nails, too.
How to do punk
If you're wondering just how easy it is to pull of punk like the stars, one of the best ways to start is with your accessories. While a spiked leather jacket or bleached-blonde mohawk are in-your-face options, starting off with a studded choker, cross necklaces or bejeweled headpieces can ease you into the style. Try something like the Stainless Steel Black And Gold ION-Plated Cross Pendant And Adjustable Cord Necklace or the Black Stingray Choker-Necklace to get started.
