Stars dazzle on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards
The Golden Globe Awards is not only known for its A-list attendance, but also its fashion. The night was full of every style from bejeweled, metallic gowns to mermaid-style show-stoppers.
Michelle Williams walked away with a Best Actress award for her role as Marilyn Monroe in "My Week With Marilyn," and she also topped the Best Dressed lists of the night. The actress wore unique, navy Jason Wu dress and paired it with a dazzling Fred Leighton for Forevermark headband and jewels. When Williams accepted her award, there was only one person she wanted to truly thank.
"I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life," Williams said during acceptance speech.
Another winner of the night was Claire Danes, who garnered Best Actress in a Television Series (Drama) in "Homeland." The star opted for subtle jewelry, a simple diamond bracelet and studded earrings, as her black-and-white J. Mendel gown pulled out all the stops with embellished detailing and an open back.
It wasn't just those who took home the Globes who looked dazzling as they walked the red carpet. It comes as no surprise that one of the stars of "Modern Family," which won Best Comedy, Sofia Vergara looked amazing. Vergara is known for her killer dresses and matching fashion jewelry, and last night was no exception. The actress donned a dark sapphire Vera Wang strapless gown that clung to her famous curves and flared out in mermaid-style. She complemented this gorgeous look with 160 carats - which is worth more than $5 million - of Harry Winston diamonds in the forms of rings, bracelets and dangling earrings.
Reese Witherspoon also chose a bold color to wear at the event - red. This strapless crimson Zac Posen gown was paired with sparkling Fred Leighton bangles and her blonde hair was left down and simply tousled.
Many stars went another direction and opted for the pale, beautiful dresses. Those who followed this trend included Kate Beckinsale, Elle Macpherson, Nicole Kidman and Jessica Alba.
Beckinsale looked nothing short of marvelous in a fitted-strapless Robert Cavalli gown. The white dress was complete with sequin embellishment and a chiffon pleat detail around the skirt. She chose to match the look with big diamond bracelets and massive earrings.
Australian supermodel Macpherson donned a show-stopping white Zac Posen gown that was compete with a layered fishtail skirt. She paired this strapless number with a bunch of chunky metallic cuffs that went up her arm.
Actress Kidman also added metallic into her look, as the star wore a gold and bronze-studded Versace dress with Frank Leighton subtle jewels. She wore a gold bracelet and earrings, which did not off-set the impeccably detailed gown. Alba donned a pale purple Gucci gown with Bulgari jewels and a Roger Vivier bag. The two actresses also brought along their best accessories - husbands Keith Urban and Cash Warren, respectively.
Celebrities also can't go wrong in black. Mila Kunis did so by opting for a Dior dress with sparkling diamond earrings. Also, Best Actress nominee Rooney Mara continued with her black hair pulled back and a simple black gown for the occasion.
All in all, the event was full of hits and very few misses. Now, individuals will have to wait for more fabulous gowns when the Oscars come in February.
